ALLAN Johnston has expressed his delight that Dunfermline have managed to retain the services of first-team coach John Potter in the face of interest from St Mirren.

Potter, who spent six years at St Mirren as a player, was a target for new Buddies boss Jack Ross as the former Alloa manager sought to name an assistant in Paisley.

Johnston issued a ‘hands off’ warning to the Pars’ Championship rivals and, with Ross appointing James Fowler as his number two on Friday, the Fifers have breathed a sigh of relief.

Johnston, whose side have been drawn to face Dundee United at home in the IRN-BRU Cup quarter-finals, said: “We didn’t want to lose Pottsy. He’s a big part of the backroom staff and he’s a great lad as well.

“You can see how much the young boys have progressed under him as well.

“Obviously, we didn’t want him to leave. I think there was interest but he was wanting to stay.”
