LEEANN DEMPSTER has praised the Hibs fans for helping pull off the capture of Efe Ambrose from Celtic.

The Easter Road side have now completed the formalities of a two-year contract for the Nigeria internationalist, who played 12 times on loan from the Hoops this season.

Dempster, who says Hibs needed a visa and ratification from the Scottish FA before announcing the transfer, believes the deal represents a massive ‘coup’ for the Championship winners and manager Neil Lennon as they prepare for their long-awaited return to the top-flight.

And the Hibs chief executive insists the backing of the 11,300 season-ticket holders who have already committed for next season has played a significant part in the arrival of Ambrose.

She said: “Efe is a player of real quality, and one who excited the fans when he arrived on a short-term deal.

“The club as a whole are delighted to be bringing in a player with his quality and experience.

“Neil was really keen to get Efe over the line, and we’re delighted to have been able to achieve that.

“Bringing in a player like Efe is a coup and the supporters played their part.

“We now have over 11,300 season ticket holders. This is the sort of backing that helps us to bring in players with his quality as we prepare for the season ahead.”

Ambrose, who Lennon brought to Celtic in 2012, is Hibs’ third new signing of the summer, joining Danny Swanson and Simon Murray in beefing up Lennon’s squad for next term.
