Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon has given manager Brendan Rodgers a boost after revealing that he has returned to training following a knee injury.

The Scotland internationalist was initially ruled out for up to 12 weeks after damaging a medial ligament in a collision with former Hoops team-mate Efe Ambrose during the January 27 victory over Hibs.

But the 35-year-old, who was sidelined for two years with a problem to his other knee prior to joining Celtic in summer 2014, posted an update on social media less than six weeks into his rehabilitation.

Alongside a picture of his football boots and gloves, Gordon said: “It’s been a while, loved having these back on today.”

Although Gordon is still likely to be weeks away from a return to action, the player’s progress will be welcomed by Rodgers and the Hoops supporters.

Stand-in keeper Dorus De Vries came in for criticism during Celtic’s costly 3-0 Europa League defeat to Zenit St Petersburg after he failed to keep out Daler Kuzyaev’s shot from distance.
