Baby Giant Anteater

An unusual new baby has been born to parents at Edinburgh Zoo.

Equipped with an extra-long sticky tongue that can stretch over half a metre, almost blind and totally toothless; a baby Giant anteater recently entered the world to mum and dad.

Born on the 18th March, this new baby Giant anteater spends most of its time riding on mum’s back, and probably will do until it’s around 18 months and almost half her size. It is not yet know whether this curious looking mammal is male or female, and keepers will not be able to confirm the baby Giant anteater’s sex for some time yet until it becomes independent from mum.
