Freed Dundee defender Kevin Holt ‘perfect’ for Pafos FC says boss Steven Pressley after sealing move to Cyprus

STEVEN PRESSLEY insists Kevin Holt ‘fits the bill perfectly’ as Pafos FC build a whole new squad this summer.

Pressley was rewarded with a new contract after enjoying a successful end to the season with the Cypriot top-flight club, who he steered well clear of the relegation that threatened them when he took over in February.

The former Hearts, Celtic and Scotland defender has made Holt his first signing after the ex-Queen of the South player was released by Dundee at the end of the campaign.

And, with Pafos’s new sporting director, Lars Hellengreen, leading the identification of up to 20 new players, ‘Elvis’ is delighted to have snapped up Holt.

He told @CCP_sport: “We’ve got a huge recruitment drive ahead of us and, although I’m not the main driver of that, as we have a sporting director and a number of scouts who have a greater responsibility then me, Kevin was someone I put towards them.

“I felt he perfectly fitted the profile of the type of player we needed in a certain position.

“I’m going to play with a back three next season and I see his best position on the left-hand side of a three-man defence.

CHARACTER

“I like my players in that position to almost be athletic full-backs, which allows them to break into the middle of the park when we play, and they are generally better defending down the sides.

“Kevin is also a terrific character and the great thing is he was very keen on the move himself.

“He wanted to play abroad and it’s important when you make a signing that the player wants to come in.

“He is the first one of about 20 we need to sign and it’s a great start.”
