Driver seriously injured after early morning crash on A7

RUSH hour commuters were thrown into chaos today (Fri) as police were forced to close part of the busy A7 road to attend a serious crash after a car collided with a lorry.

The white Renault Clio, which was travelling south on the road near Middleton Mains, Midlothian, when it hit an oncoming Ford Iveco lorry, at around 7.30am.

A 52-year-old man who was driving the car was believed to be in a “serious” condition and was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with multiple injuries to his lead, legs and arms.

The lorry driver and a passenger escaped with minor injuries and did not need to go to hospital.

Road Policing Officers closed the road for around five-and-a-half hours while they carried out an investigation at the scene.

Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.

A police spokesman said: “The collision has resulted in serious injury to one driver and we are now keen to speak to other motorists or members of the public who can assist us with our enquiries into the circumstances surrounding this incident.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police immediately.”
