Kunal Puri of Texas recently discussed the numerous benefits of golf for aging adults.

Golf is a lifelong sport. Kunal Puri of Houston recently explained that golf offers a variety of mental and physical benefits to those who hit the links regularly.

“Golf is extremely popular among people over 65 for a reason,” Kunal Puri of Texas said. “It offers numerous benefits for the body and mind.”

Puri outlined several benefits of golf to encourage aging adults to take up the sport, even if they’ve never held a club.

Golf Is an Excellent Source of Exercise

Aging adults may have difficulty with high-impact exercises. Fortunately, golf is a low-impact sport for people of all ages.

Playing golf can help fight hypertension, obesity, and muscle loss. Kunal Puri emphasized the importance of walking the course for superior physical benefits. 

It’s a Mood Booster

A round of golf can improve a person’s mood, even if they didn’t play as well as they’d like. Exercise releases endorphins, which are also known as “feel-good” chemicals. Seniors leave the golf course feeling more relaxed and happier than when they arrived.

Golf Can Reduce Stress and Anxiety

Stress and anxiety are significant concerns for people of all ages. Seniors may resort to unhealthy stress-relief options, like eating unhealthy snacks, drinking alcohol, or smoking. 

However, many don’t know they can release stress on the golf course. Playing golf, especially with friends or family, can help individuals cope with stress and leave the course feeling less anxious. 

It Keeps the Mind Sharp

Mentally active individuals are more likely to delay or prevent cognitive diseases like Alzheimer’s and dementia. Golf requires strategy, scoring, and numerous other challenges that help keep the mind active and sharp. 

Golf Promotes Socialization

Retired adults don’t typically socialize as often as they would if they working. That can lead to loneliness and low self-esteem. 

Mr. Puri of Texas explained that golf encourages aging adults to socialize on the golf course and afterward at the club. Golf clubs serve as gathering places where golf players and fans can play a round, talk shop, enjoy meals, and receive the mental health benefits of socializing.
