Healthcare Executive Anthony Misitano –Making a Lasting Difference in Community, Education, and Healthcare

Through their positive leadership, healthcare executives can make a significant difference for thousands of individuals. Being an impactful healthcare leader requires stretching beyond the organization’s walls and into the communities it serves by participating in outreach initiatives, collaborations, and charitable pursuits. They partner with others to address social determinants of health, promote health education, and support local healthcare initiatives. In creating those synergistic relationships, they build a healthcare system that is patient-centered, inclusive, and focused on attaining optimum health for everyone.

One such healthcare leader is Anthony Misitano, PAM Health LLC’s founder, Chairman, and CEO. A healthcare executive, philanthropist, and community activist, Misitano invests his time, energy, enthusiasm, and influence into projects that build heal their communities, empower youth, and improve the quality of care. At PAM Health, he oversees the company’s strategic direction, development, and operations. Born in Altoona, PA, Anthony Misitano completed his schooling at Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School.  He received his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Penn State University, focusing on Public Health Administration, Hospital Administration, and Healthcare Planning. He also completed a certification in executive presence and influence in persuasive leadership development from the Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA.

After graduating from college, Misitano started his professional career in January 1988 as a corporate officer, supervising hospital operations at CMS (Continental Medical Systems). While there, he oversaw operations of more than 40 hospitals and 100 outpatient centers before eventually became the CEO. In 1998, Misitano founded Trans Healthcare International Holdings (THI Holdings) and served as the company’s Chairman. Under his leadership, THI Holdings became the biggest private nursing home organization in the country, with more than 200 operational facilities in 22 states; more than 30,000 employees; and annual revenues of more than $1.2 billion. A few years later, in 2006, Misitano founded PAM Health, LLC and serves as the company’s Chairman and CEO. PAM Health operates a 70-hospital system with inpatient and outpatient facilities in 23 states, focusing on inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, long-term acute care, and mental health.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Misitano is motivated to give back to the community. He regularly participates in volunteer and community work, which reflects his “people first” attitude. Misitano is the Chairman of the Board of Central Penn Elite AAU Basketball and a trustee at Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School in Altoona, PA. Misitano also regularly donates to charity and has given $3.5 million to renovate the Penn State Football Facility lobby, which demonstrates his dedication to improving student-athlete and fan experiences. Misitano has also contributed $250,000 to the Penn State Women’s Field Hockey, Ice Hockey, and Basketball teams, allowing players to pursue their ambitions.

For his contributions to the community, Misitano has received several honors. In 2017, he was named a JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) Gala Honoree and helped raise approximately $700,000 for battle against Type 1 diabetes. Misitano was also honored with the Special Olympics of Central Pennsylvania’s fourth annual Community Hero Award, recognizing his extensive contributions to the organization and its athletes.

By serving on several advisory boards and committees, Misitano demonstrates his commitment to higher education. He was a member of the Penn State Altoona Advisory Board. He also served on the Penn State Advisory Committee to the Board of Trustees. Misitano co-chaired the Penn Staters for Responsible Stewardship Legal and Regulatory Task Force, contributing to the university’s responsible governance and stewardship. Misitano has made significant contributions to Penn State’s sports programs, demonstrating his dedication to the institution. Besides the initiatives previously mentioned, Misitano launched a non-profit organization, Success with Honor, with four other Penn State alum members in 2022 to empower and help student-athletes. His philanthropic passion is evident in the Misitano Family Coach’s Office Suite, which emphasizes his commitment to creating a leading-edge facility for student-athletes and coaches.

Additionally, Misitano co-owns the Pittsburgh Passion Women’s Football Team, the world’s most recognized women’s full-contact football franchise, providing women with an opportunity to showcase their agility, athleticism, and skills on the field. As a Certified Instructor of Bojuka Self-defense, he contributes his knowledge and talents so that others may benefit from this practical life skill.

 Through his personal and professional accomplishments, philanthropy, and community service, Anthony Misitano has inspired others. He has had a lasting influence through his leadership in healthcare, devotion to education, and dedication to improving the lives of others.
