Who are the best current players at Everton?

Picking the top players for Everton these days isn’t as easy as it used to be. They recently had a tough season, almost getting relegated. Things aren’t looking great this time, either.

Choosing their best players is quite challenging, but we’ve given it a shot. Here are the 9 best players in their team. Let’s check them out…

Dwight McNeil

McNeil shone brightly as Everton’s highest Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points earner, amassing an impressive 126 total, just like Alex Iwobi did for Arsenal last season.

McNeil took home Everton’s top goal-scorer title with seven goals and five assists to his name, playing 2,501 minutes compared to Iwobi’s 3,381 minutes on the pitch. McNeil found further inspiration under former Burnley manager Sean Dyche during the latter part of the season, appearing more confident as an individual and producing results consistently.

McNeil finished as the third-highest-scoring midfielder during the final 12 weeks of 2022/23, scoring an impressive 71 points and placing third when measured against points per 90 minutes or per appearance.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Calvert-Lewin’s got a bit of a health concern, you see. His track record in terms of staying fit and avoiding injuries hasn’t been stellar – in 17 games last season alone, he scored two goals while providing assistance on another. Not exactly a stellar performance.

Calvert-Lewin only appeared in 17 games during his rookie season of 2018/19; however, when in good health and at his peak performance, he can truly shine in the Fantasy Premier League. Look at what happened during 2020/21 when he made 33 games and scored 16 goals with six assists – an indication of serious potential should he remain healthy!

If he can avoid injuries this season and complete an entire campaign without experiencing setbacks, his bargain price tag of PS6.0m might prove completely absurd.

Calvert-Lewin currently ranks fourth among Everton players for predicted points for the opening five game-weeks.

Injuries affect a team’s performance greatly. As a result, fans intending to bet on upcoming Everton matches should learn more about all team members and their current condition (the same goes for the other team members).

Abdoulaye Doucoure

Abdoulaye Doucoure stands out as Everton’s top player, no doubt about it. He’s a midfielder with the potential for even higher levels, and if Everton builds their team around him, they can avoid relegation and aim for mid-table this season.

Dyche’s job isn’t easy, but having Doucoure, especially alongside Onana in midfield, makes it less challenging. It’s a dominant duo; all Everton needs now is some wins!

Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Dominic Calvert-Lewin might have been at the top of this list if he hadn’t been dealing with injuries lately. Sadly, injuries have held him back.

At the end of the 2020/21 season, he scored an impressive 21 goals in all competitions and was on cloud nine. But in the last season, he’s been working hard to recover from his injuries and has only managed to score once. However, his talent is still shining through.

Amadou Onana

Amadou Onana joined Goodison Park in the summer after leaving Lille, even though he had the chance to join West Ham United. He’s a real powerhouse in the midfield, standing out with his strength and skills.

Onana is becoming a crucial player for Dyche’s team, especially in their first win, where he bossed the midfield against Arsenal. He always runs tirelessly on the field, and if he stays in Merseyside, he’ll probably keep rising in importance.

Demarai Gray

When Demarai Gray began his Everton journey last summer, it was as if he had a burning desire to make a statement, like he was on the brink of something spectacular.

That unforgettable winning goal against Arsenal was the perfect symbol of his early days at Goodison Park.

Although he might have lost a bit of steam along the way, there’s still that spark of potential in him waiting to be ignited.

In the previous season, he managed to find the back of the net three times in the Premier League, and that could be crucial for Dyche as he continues to mold the team in his image.

James Tarkowski

Only time can reveal if our decision to place James Tarkowski so high on our list will turn out to be a wise choice.

Right now, we’re convinced that he stands among the finest players in Everton’s current squad.

Tarkowski’s past exploits at Burnley showcase his value, helping them achieve remarkable feats like reaching the Europa League, although they eventually faced relegation.

With his wealth of experience, the defender can bring a lot to the table at Goodison Park. This is especially true now that Dyche, someone he’s intimately familiar with, is calling the shots from the dugout.

Ben Godfrey

When Ben Godfrey made his move from Norwich City to Everton in 2020, he was immediately thrust into the intense struggle to avoid relegation.

But here’s the twist – instead of sinking, he’s learned to navigate the tricky currents of the Premier League with skill and determination.

Although he’s proven to be quite dependable on the pitch, pesky injuries have hindered his progress. Last season, he only managed to make four league appearances, which was a bit disappointing.

But here’s the impressive part – he’s so talented that he even got the opportunity to represent England not once but twice. That’s a testament to his abilities despite the setbacks.

Alex Iwobi

It might sound a bit surprising but believe it or not, Alex Iwobi has found his way onto this list, and there’s a reason behind it.

Over the past season or so, the guy who used to play for Arsenal has quietly transformed into a dependable midfielder, first under Frank Lampard and now with Dyche at the helm.

He’s been showcasing some impressive passing skills every now and then, and that’s been earning him a more prominent role at Goodison Park, much to everyone’s surprise.

Since joining the club, Iwobi has notched up more than 120 appearances, proving he’s here to stay and make his mark.

That sums up our ranking of Everton’s best players right now. What do you think of our list? Have we missed any deserving players? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
