Former Celtic star Chris Sutton brands Livingston pitch an “embarrassment” following Hoops’ table-topping win

CHRIS Sutton has slammed Livingston in the wake of their 3-0 defeat to Celtic admitting that he can’t wait to see the back of their ‘monstrosity’ of a pitch in the top flight of Scottish football.

The West Lothian side failed to create any meaningful opportunities against the league leaders and are now ten points adrift at the foot of the table.

David Martindale’s men now face a monumental task to avoid the drop but will have their future in their hands when the split comes into play after next week’s games.

Former Celtic star Sutton lambasted the quality of the dry, playing surface at Almondvale, which he also labelled an “embarrassment”.

Whilst the pitch didn’t stop Brendan Rodgers men from taking all three points back along the M8 to Glasgow, it was slammed by their former striker.

The former Norwich and Chelsea man took to social media yesterday to share his views on the pitch, writing: “Very comfortable for Celtic in the end.

“Great news to see Hatate back and for Carter-Vickers to seemingly come through 90 minutes, Livingston offered very little, and I’ll be glad never to see their monstrosity of a pitch in the top flight again.

“It’s an embarrassment.”

His post received over 3,500 likes with hundreds of comments from fans of the Scottish Premiership quick to offer their views.

One said: “The pitch was so bad you could hardly make out where the ball was, why don’t they dye the pitch a shade more green, then we, the paying public, can actually see the ball, it was like playing X marks the spot.”

Another added: “It is a total embarrassment, it would affect a player’s decision to play in the SPFL – good win and essential, let’s see what happens next week.”

A third replied: “It’s ridiculous, you can see the players being wary of it, also difficult to see the ball as a spectator.”

Another commented: “Great second half from Celtic, it’s a shame about the pitch as it’s a great little stadium.”

Chris Sutton wasn’t alone in his assessment of the pitch with Scots comic Frankie Boyle claiming the surface was “looking like a pool table in Barlinnie”.
