Scots murderer on the run from open prison



A convicted killer has gone on the run after escaping  from an open prison.

Daniel Somers was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1978 for murder and released on life licence in 1999.

The 49-year-old was recalled to prison after being convicted of assault to severe injury in October 2000.

Somers failed to return to HMP Castle Huntly prison when expected to on Wednesday (March 7) after being granted one-week’s temporary release to his hometown of Glasgow.

Somers is described as being 5ft 8in tall and of average build, with shaved brown hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion. He has tattoos on both arms.
