A Fatal Accident Inquiry is to be held after prison chiefs revealed a 19-year-old boy died in custody at Polmont Young Offenders Institute on Christmas Day.
Andrew Stone had been remanded there just five days earlier after appearing at Livingston Sheriff Court on charges of assault with intent to rob.
A Scottish Prison Service statement said next of kin had been informed.
