Cedric Fernando MD Discusses the Value of Volunteer Work on His Medical Career

For Cedric Fernando MD, volunteer work is a big part of his life and career. He uses his expertise in family medicine, addiction medicine, and MRO services to better serve his patients and others in the community. MRO services provide expertise in all aspects of occupational drug testing.

His goal as a medical professional is to help everyone who comes to see him. But he also works with others who are not his patients in a volunteer capacity. He has practiced medicine and supported his patients to improve their health since his first day. Dr. Fernando graduated from medical school in 1983.

A Life and Career Spent Helping Others

Fernando volunteered as a camp doctor for the Boy Scouts at Camp Davy Crocket for many years. These summer camps helped Boy Scout troop members learn valuable life skills. While camps offered activities for the troop members to enjoy, there was a small risk of injury or illness.

Having a camp doctor on site ensured that any Boy Scout who became sick or injured would receive prompt, proper care to help them recover as quickly as possible. Volunteering at the camp allowed Dr. Fernando to provide much-needed support to a valuable organization.

Through his time helping the Boy Scouts, he was able to help many boys and young men get past small issues with illness and injury. This allowed the troop members to continue their time at the camp, learn from the experience, and bond with one another during the summer months.

Cedric Fernando MD has also been a Member of the Unicoi County Board of Health for over 30 years and is still serving in that capacity. He sees the importance of advocating for community health programs. By working with the Board, he can make his voice heard and improve life for community members.

Cedric Fernando MD Has Received Awards and Recognition

In addition to the value of his volunteer work, Cedric Fernando MD has received awards for his overall dedication to healthcare. He is board-certified in several fields and is also a fellow of the American Academy of Family Medicine.

He has received recognition from the Academy for his long-term membership there, which is now greater than 25 years. Dr. Fernando has no plans to retire or move away from his members and fellowships.

His current and future focus remains on his patients and the overarching community, where he can make a difference for everyone who comes to him for their health needs.

With a focus on the promotion of family medicine, he understands the value of truly caring for others. Proper care and support for the health of the people around him is a community effort. Dr. Cedric Fernando MD will continue to lead that effort as much as possible.

With nearly 40 years of experience in the medical field, Dr. Fernando offers his patients the knowledge and compassion they need to focus on better health for the future.
