Beak-a-boo: Nurses forced into hilarious confrontation with pair of pigeons who invaded ward during shift

TWO nurses were forced into a hilarious confrontation with a pair of pigeons that found their way into the ward during their shift.

Nisha Tappu and her co-worker faced off against their feathery intruders in an empty patient’s room in the hospital on Monday.

Armed with a blanket, the pair were subjected to two minutes of chaos as they hilariously unsuccessfully tried to coax the birds out of an open window.

Video filmed by Nisha shows the two entering the room, with Nisha’s colleague holding a blanket in her outspread arms to try and block the pigeons.

Nisha goads her pal to confront the pigeons, prompting her colleague to demand: “Right, you’re going to have to come in.”

The two tentatively enter the room but let out shrieks and squeals as the unexpected visitors flap and jump back and forth in a fruitless attempt to find the exit.

Nisha backs out the room briefly, refusing to enter until her friend offers to close the curtain to separate the pair from the birds.

Conceding, Nisah comes back into the room as her colleague closes the curtain before walking behind it to face the intruders herself.

Nisha calls out: “I’m in – open the window.”

Her co-worker then hilariously snaps back: “I’m doing it but they’re flapping at me – it doesn’t open wider.”

Nisha lets out another shrill scream as the birds flap around again before saying: “Well then we can’t do anything, we’re not pest control.”

The scene then devolves into chaos with the birds desperately flapping back and forth across the room as the women continuously let out shrieks.

Nisha pleads with her pal to get out the room, threatening to lock her in before her colleague triumphantly shouts back: “I’ve got it, I’ve got a bird.”

Her co-worker then begins wrenching the window open but airs her concerns that the move might let more birds in.

Nisha’s colleague then emerges from behind the curtain and hilariously begins shouting at the birds to go out the window, yelling: “No, you’re walking the wrong way.”

Nisha asks her pal if at least one of the pigeons is out the room but is promptly told that her efforts were unsuccessful, leaving Nisha to say: “Well then leave it.”

But her pal is not ready to give up yet, handing the blanket to Nisha and charging behind the curtain once more to confront the birds.

She disappears behind the curtain and a loud banging ensues as she does battle with the birds whilst letting out bizarre cooing noises.

Nisha peeks around the curtain just in time to film as one of the birds flies straight towards her pal’s face prompting both nurses to scream.

The duo finally gives up and exit the room into the hallway, locking the pigeons in and turning the lights off as they do before letting out a laugh in disbelief.

Nisha posted the video to social media on Monday with the caption: “We’re NHS nurses, of course we can deal with the unexpected… or at least try.”

The clip has since received over 16,300 likes and more than 420 comments from users left in stitches by the confrontation.

One user said: “I’ve had to tell a delirious patient’s family – if she tells you birds were in her room, she wasn’t hallucinating.”

Another added: “Fellow nurse here, this is hilarious. Really made me chuckle.”

A third wrote: “Nah, I’d either be at the other end of hospital or needing a bed myself, scary things.”

Another replied: “You’re not a nurse if you haven’t had to get rid of a pigeon from the ward at some point.”
