SNP and Greens slammed by Scots after felling trees in “one of the last green spaces” in Partick amid raking in £3m in LEZ charges

THE SNP and Green Party have been slammed by Scots after trees in “one of the last green spaces” in Partick were felled.

The ongoing work was spotted on Beith Street in the Glasgow community yesterday and has sparked fury with claims that the move goes completely against the council’s seemingly eco-friendly stance.

Scots locals have claimed that Glasgow City Council (GCC) have sold off the land for development and destroyed the green space whilst simultaneously profiting from the new low emission zone (LEZ) charges.

The recent introduction of the eco-friendly LEZ initiative saw cameras and charges introduced in certain areas of Glasgow and has been met with resistance from locals.

Locals were left infuriated.

GCC has already issued £3m in LEZ fines in less than a year with the initiative seemingly becoming a cash cow for the local authority.

Social media was left outraged with claims that the council planned to profit from climate change on one hand while damaging the environment on the other.

Images show dozens of mature trees felled, stripped and piled in the green space that was once filled with greenery.

The images were shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “So the SNP/Green GCC has issued £3m in LEZ fines.

“Those fined can seek solace in it being for the good of the environment.

“Wait a minute… just passing one of the last green spaces in Partick at Beith St.

“Dozens of mature trees are being cut down. GCC sold it off for development.”

The post has since received over 190 likes and dozens of comments from furious Scots quick to share their thoughts.

One user said: “It’s almost as if LEZ has nothing to do with the climate at all but just another way to extort the general public?”

Former councillor Phillip Charles added: “You have a fair point there. If I were still a councillor I might raise a motion on this.”

A third wrote: “Nothing but a money-making scam for corrupt council.”

Another replied: “Ugh, so glad we’re getting fined for trying to help the environment. Meanwhile, GCC is selling off green spaces for development. Way to go, guys”
