Commsworld to fill gap in broadband market with new connectivity product

COMMSWORLD has unveiled a new cost-effective connectivity product which bridges the gap in the broadband market for businesses.

The Edinburgh-headquartered company has launched Ethernet over Fibre to the Premises (EoFTTP), which is a business-grade broadband service providing “ultra-high-speed fibre-optic connectivity”.

This means there are minimum bandwith assurances and rapid repair times if there is a fault.

This service will sit between the two opposing options currently open to businesses – on one side are consumer-grade FTTP services that provide 1GBPS but have no guarantee of reliable or higher bandwith if used within busy business times.

On the other side are Ethernet leased lines that offer guaranteed higher bandwith at all times.

For small businesses, or companies using hybrid working, this option is reliable but expensive to run for the amount it is used.

The EoFTTP uses the FTTP coverage of network builders, such as Openreach and CityFibre, along with their own fiber infrastructure within many major Scottish cities and large areas of Northumberland.

Commsworld currently has plans to add additional networks within the coming months, to help further extend the EoFTTP’s coverage.

With is fibre connection, the product is said to guarantee 100 MBPS as a mininum, as well as being “burstable” to 1GBPS.

Therefore, when hybrid workers are in the office, the business will be able to accomodate them while staying at a business-grade service.

Charlie Boisseau, chief technology officer at Commsworld, said: “The lack of a quality option that sits in the middle of the market for business is a problem that has persisted for years, but hasn’t been filled due to lack of fibre infrastructure.

“Commsworld’s EoFTTP leverages the growing abundance of this new FTTP coverage across multiple operators to fill that gap – especially for SMEs that do not need the top-end service more suited to bigger corporates.

“In essence, it utilises the infrastructure that is now on the market for individuals and homeowners, where they share networks with other neighbours, with just a single fibre cable delivering this shared network to their homes,” he explained.

Andrew Wilson, sales director at CityFibre, added: “Commsworld has identified a real gap in the market and the launch of this new offering looks to successfully address that void.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Commsworld and supporting this launch.”
