Buccleuch Property announces Chris’s House as new charity partner

BUCCLEUCH PROPERTY has announced Chris’s House as its new fundraising partner for the 2024 Buccleuch Property Challenge.

The challenge, which is in its 16th year, will see teams from across the property industry compete for a trophy while also raising money for the suicide prevention charity.

The Wishaw based charity is founded by Anne Brown who wanted to create a safe environment for people contemplating suicide to get professional support.

In 2011 Anne lost her 36-year-old son, Chris, to suicide and decided to take action and establish a crisis centre in his memory.

The centre is the first 24 hour, non-medical crisis centre in Scotland offering integrated support.

Anyone who uses the service is called a “guest” who each receive an individually tailored programme to help them recover.

Anne works with 60+ volunteers who have been touched by suicide in some way during their life and understand its ripple effects.

In response to being chosen, Anne said: “We are really looking forward to the 2024 Buccleuch Property Challenge and we are so grateful to have been chosen as the fundraising partner this year.”

The six-hour challenge will take place on September 6 at Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfries and Galloway and will involved up to 80 teams of three people competing in mixed, men’s and women’s categories.

The annual event is recognised as a true test of stamina, fitness and mental capacity as participants will take part in a range of activities including running, mountain biking, paddle boarding and orienteering.

Since the challenge was established in 2008, it has raised over £205,000 for a variety of charities such as Childline, Ovarian Cancer Action and Borders Children’s Charity.

David Peck, Managing Director of Buccleuch Property, said: “We always go through a rigorous selection process and like supporting smaller, local charities where our contribution can make a bigger difference.

“We are absolutely delighted to be supporting this very worthwhile cause and have seen first-hand the amazing work they do on the ground.”
