Stained glass window smashed at church

By Kirsty Topping

Vandals smashed stained-glass window causing 1500 worth of damage to a church.

The United Reform Church in Bathgate was targeted overnight on Saturday and had a large stained glass window broken and eggs thrown at the building.

The incident is the second in a week after St Andrews Church in Livingston was also targeted, though police do not believe the incidents are linked.

Manager of the West Lothian Community Safety Unit, Inspector Stephen Elliot, said: “These incidents are mindless acts of vandalism to buildings that serve our local communities.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have seen some suspicious activity in Marjoribanks Street on either Saturday night or Sunday morning, to get in touch as a matter of urgency. “

Anyone with information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131.
