Heartwarming video shows inspirational blind man completing London marathon

A HEARTWARMING video shows a blind man completing the London Marathon whilst being cheered on by his proud family.

Jack Davey finished the gruelling run on Sunday with the help from his personal trainer and running guide, Joe Merry.

The inspirational Londoner is registered blind, on the autistic spectrum and has a condition called septo-optic-dysplasia – a rare congenital malformation syndrome.

However, software engineer Jack was not letting anything stop him over the weekend as he pushed through and completed the 26.2 feat.

Video shows Jack, from Beckenham, Kent, running through the streets of London with Joe, known fondly as Ginger Joe, as the duo wear their yellow and pink vests.

Joe is shown guiding Jack along using a rubber band attached to his wrist as the pair smile for the crowds.

At one point, Jack is shown stopping to hug his parents who are giving him words of encouragement towards the end of the race.

Final images show Jack with his well deserved 2022 London Marathon medal around his neck as he finally gets to take a seat.

Jack’s sister, Ella Davey, shared the video of Jack during the marathon on TikTok yesterday, writing: “This is my incredible brother Jack and his personal trainer running this years 2022 London Marathon.

“Jack is our inspiration in life. Jack is registered blind, on the autistic spectrum and has a condition called septo-optic-dysplasia but he has never let that stop him achieving his goals.

“He has raised over £5,000 for the RNIB, a charity which has supported Jack’s growth and independence.”

Ella also added in a link to Jack’s fundraising page, where he wrote: “As many of you may know, I am registered blind, my disability impacts every aspect of my day to day life.

“This can range from needing to take more time when completing certain tasks, such as cooking, to only being able to use public transport in London at certain times in order to cope with the volume of people.

“Over time with the help and the support from the RNIB, I have learnt to channel my day to day challenges into positivity.

“I am proud to say that I not only have a 2:1 degree in computer science but also have a Master’s degree and currently work as a software engineer for Cisco.

An amazing achievement for Jack! (C) Ella Davey

“However, my goals would not have been achieved without the help and support from the RNIB, which is why I have decided to run the London 2022 Marathon. My friend and personal trainer Joe Merry aka Ginger Joe will be my eyes for the marathon.

“Without Joe this challenge would not be possible. So please be sure to cheer us both on if you choose to come and support us.”

The video of Jack completing the marathon has attracted over 710,000 views and more than 2,000 comments from impressed viewers.
