“For people on a diet” – Aldi shopper left in stitches after finding sealed empty packet of ham on shop shelf

AN ALDI shopper was left in stitches after discovering an empty sealed packet of ham on the shelf of her local shop.

Laura Atkinson was left chuckling in the middle of her weekly shop in the Aldi at Felling, Tyne and Wear, when she found the seemingly invisible cold meat.

The 37-year-old shared images of the unusual find, which show her holding the packet of Aldi’s £1.99 15-slice everyday essentials breaded ham family pack.

However, the packet – whilst sealed and presented like the rest of the produce in the fridge – is completely devoid of any ham.

Laura, from Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, shared the photo of the empty packet to social media yesterday.

She jokingly captioned her post: “£1.99 for this, come on Aldi sort your prices out, next to nothing in this. Sorry, not sorry.”

The post has since received over 850 likes and more than 100 comments from amused users who were quick to poke fun at the store’s apparent slip-up.

One user wrote: “Bet someone sent their hubby with an empty pack so he wouldn’t come back with the wrong thing and he just left it there.”

Another said: “Come on you ate it going around the shop before taking the pic.”

A third user joked: “That’s the Veganuary option.”

Another added: “That’s for people on a diet, New Year’s resolutions and that.”

A fifth quipped: “Expensive because there’s no calories in it.”

Another used joked: “It’s the fat free option.”

Speaking today Laura said: “I didn’t buy it or anything I just happened to be looking for a packet of ham and noticed the empty one whilst shopping with my 18-year-old son Craig yesterday morning.

“He picked it up laughing and I said give it here I’ll take a pic and post it on Facebook for a laugh – I couldn’t help myself and thought others would find it just as funny as we did.

“It definitely was a completely sealed packet with about five or six crumbs in it. The comments on the post have had us laughing even more – I’m glad everyone else saw the funny side of it too.”

Aldi was recently crowned Britain’s cheapest supermarket in the monthly review from comparison site Which? for November 2022.

Aldi’s price for a basket of 48 popular grocery items came in at £77.21 – beating out rival Lidl in second place by £1.36.

By comparison, the same basket cost £104.11, on average, in Waitrose – a difference of £26.90.
