Josh Taylor’s rival goads Scots boxer with Hearts shirt ahead of crunch fight

SCOTS boxer Josh Taylor’s opponent has tried to wind up the Tartan Tornado by posing in the shirt of his beloved football team’s rival.

Taylor is a well-known Hibernian fan, but his boxing nemesis Jack Catterall took the opportunity to pose yesterday in a Hearts shirt whilst in Edinburgh.

The duo shared their first press conference in the Scottish capital ahead of their highly anticipated second bout in the ring following Taylor’s controversial split decision win in February 2022.

The two will scrap at the 140lb limit and have headed south to Manchester ahead of their press conference this evening.

Catterall shared images online late last night of him decked out in the maroon colours of capital club Heart of Midlothian.

The images came alongside his manager revealing that the Gorgie club have invited Catterall to join the rampant support at Tynecastle next midweek for the upcoming Edinburgh derby.

The Manchester boxer shared the images of himself sat on a balcony sporting the Hearts shirt before turning around to reveal the reverse has ‘El Gato 1’.

El Gato is Spanish for The Cat and is the 30-year-old’s chosen ring name, which will be announced just moments before he comes face to face with Taylor.

The proud Englishman shared the images to social media yesterday with the caption: “Thank you Edinburgh, see everyone in Manchester tomorrow.”

The post received 1,300 likes with dozens of comments from boxing fans who were split on what they thought of the new shirt.

One said: “Come on Jack, let’s right a massive injustice.”

Another added: “Box the ears off him.”

A third replied: “Begging for attention this way is crazy.”

Another commented: “What a desperate little tube, embarrassing now.”

Taylor and Catterall will clash on April 27 in the First Direct Arena in Leeds, Yorkshire in the super-lightweight division.
