Edinburgh Boiler Company to give away £12k solar panel system

THE Edinburgh Boiler Cmpany (EBC) is giving away a 4KW PV solar panel system worth £12,000 to a “deserving family” in the Lothian, Borders and Fife areas.

This giveaway is a bid to encourage more people to learn about the transition into renewables, with fuel bills still sitting at double what they were last year.

The bespoke solar panel system will be designed to meet the home’s needs to maximise efficiency and energy savings. It will also include the latest solar battery technology.

Nominations for deserving households can be submitted until the end of March, with the aim of the new solar system to be installed by the start of May.

The EBC will also treat the lucky winner to an all-expenses paid day out while the work is carried out.

Applicants need to explain why they deserve the solar panels, or they can nominate someone, like a local hero, that they believe is worthy.

The EBC will examine every story, make a shortlist of potential winners and then survey their homes to see which ones can accomodate the system, before the winner is then decided.

Managing director Dougie Bell said: “We are proud to bring renewable heating solutions to our local community.

“Not everyone can afford it, so we are very keen to give back to the community, to a deserving household, however we can.

“Fuel bills may be about to reduce slightly come April but they’re still double what they were this time last year and a lot of people are feeling the crunch.

“But installed correctly with an appropriate battery system, solar can help reduce fuel bills by at least 70%

“While solar panels offer incredible benefits, we know they are still not accessible to everyone.

“There are ways and means of accessing solar, through funding, loans and grants and we can help advise on that, too.”
