TalkTV host Julia Hartley-Brewer says she is ready to be arrested amid trans views

TALKTV host Julia Hartley-Brewer has pledged that she is ready to be arrested by Police Scotland for asserting that “trans women aren’t women”.

Her comments come in light of the controversial Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act which comes into effect from 1 April.

The new act, which was passed in 2021 and aims to consolidate existing hate crime laws whilst introducing new offences, has sparked issue with many wondering if Scots will have the ability to express beliefs.

The controversial broadcaster was speaking during her TalkTV show when she offered her views on the vastly debated issue.

Hartley-Brewer, 55, began her monologue, saying: “Trans women aren’t women, they’re trans identified men, get the handcuffs, arrest me, you can arrest me, you can put me in prison.

“You will never make me pretend that I believe the lie that men can become women and women can become men.”

The host of the Julia Hartley-Brewer show warned that Police Scotland would have to make their way through millions of women if they were to come for author J.K. Rowling.

She said: “That’s how millions of women feel, they come for J.K. Rowling, they’re going to have to make their way through a heck of a lot of other women and other men who are fed up of this nonsense.

“You think the SNP would have learnt their lesson over Nicola Sturgeon and trans rapists being put in women’s prisons.”

The mother of one promised that she wouldn’t be forced to swallow an “Orwellian lie”, claiming: “They have not learned their lesson, we are going to have to go right to the wall on this one.

“There are millions of women like J.K. Rowling, Maya Forstater and all these other fantastic heroes and little old me as well.

“I’m very, very happy – you can put me behind bars I will not be forced into that Orwellian lie that a trans woman is a woman – they aren’t, they’re men.”

Her clip was shared on social media yesterday with the headline: “Julia Hartley Brewer says she is ready to be arrested for labelling transgender women as men.”

The post received over 9,800 likes with thousands of comments from social media users who were keen to share their views.

One said: “You don’t need handcuffs, just education, trans women are women – also you’re not a hero.”

Another added: “Saying a trans woman is not a woman is not transphobic, its why they are called trans woman, facts over feelings people.”

A third called: “Eww a bigot.”

Another responded: “It is what it is, we are what we are, impossible to change sex.”

The Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act was passed in 2021 and introduces new offences like “stirring up hatred” against protected groups including race, religion, sexual orientation and transgender identity.

The new crime can be committed through speech, behaviour or communication including online and would not require proof of intent to stir up hatred.

Many critics say that the “stirring up hatred” portion of the act is too broad and could lead to self-censorship or the suppression of controversial opinions.
