- Brand could get half of Katy Perry’s fortune in divorce settlement
RUSSELL BRAND is set to snap up £20million of Katy Perry’s fortune, after it was revealed that they did not sign a pre-nuptial agreement.
Brand, who filed for divorce from his wife of 14 months on Friday, could get as much as half of her fortune, which is estimated to be around £45million.
After 14 months of mostly long distance marriage, the comedian decided to call it quits after sources revealed that Katy’s partying ways got in the way of their relationship.
The 27-year-old Firework singer is said to be worth over three times the amount of the English comedian, after finishing a 10month tour around the world in 2011.
As news of the divorce has come to light, details of their “childish” rows began to emerge.
One of Perry’s closest former aides says they threatened each other with divorce “several times.”
She said: “Katy didn’t know Russell was going to file on Friday. The filing of this divorce was as childish as many of their arguments. It was a case of ‘I’m dumping you before you can dump me,’ a total pride thing.”
“Their marriage has been a game of one-upmanship.”
She said that Russell was jealous that his wife was the bigger star, undermining her over a new Katy Perry doll.
“Russell told her it looked like s*** and would make her a laughing stock.”
The pair who are usually active twitter users have not tweeted since the divorce was announced on Friday.
And Perry, who has over 13million followers is evidently the more popular of the couple, as Brand’s followers stands at only 3 million.
Brand has enjoyed mediocre success in the US with a string of films including the comedy flick Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Katy’s aide said that he was jealous of her success.
Last night, US lawyer Jim Fedalen said: “If Ms Perry didn’t sign a pre-nup, it could prove one of the costliest decisions of her life.”
Her aide added: “She will be fighting tooth and nail over any settlement.”
