Family of nurses graduate on same day

MEET the trio of angels who are keeping it in the family – by graduating into the NHS on the SAME DAY.

Mum Angela Mackenzie and her two daughters all qualified for work yesterday after receiving their Bachelor of Nursing from Edinburgh Napier University.

Angela, 45, graduated with a BN in Mental Health Nursing, along with daughter Lauren, 22, while Lisa, 21, graduated with a BN in Adult General Nursing.

Proud mum Angela said: “I’m very excited to be graduating with my two girls and delighted that they decided to follow in my footsteps.

“We’ve all thoroughly enjoyed our time at Edinburgh Napier.“Lots of mums and daughters have a close relationship but it’s not so many that can say they’ve shared an experience like this one.”

Hugged

The family spent many hours together studying for coursework and exams, with mum Angela giving her daughters some wise advice for the future after previously working as a nursing assistant at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

After four years of studying and work experience in busy city centre hospitals and care homes the trio proudly displayed their scrolls and hugged each other after graduating at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh.

Angela added: “Getting my degree after all this hard work has certainly been made all the more meaningful because I’m graduating with my family.

“All I need to do now is to convince my only son to study nursing instead of plumbing.”
