Van Zanten, who spent season 2008-09 with Hibs and had nine years at St Mirren, dropped out of the full-time ranks for the first time in his career last summer when he moved to Dumbarton, where he made 23 appearances.

The 33-year-old Dubliner said: “I’m delighted to have signed for Airdrie and I’m really looking forward to getting started on what will be my 17th season!”

Crighton helped hometown team Morton to the League One title in May, playing 37 times over the course of the campaign, but was freed by manager Jim Duffy last month.

Crighton said: “I can now say I’ll be playing my football with Airdrie next season and I can’t wait to get started.”
