Felix Brych to lay down the law in Celtic v Malmo Champions League clash

BY ALAN TEMPLE – Capital City Press

The referee who awarded Celtic the dramatic late penalty which sealed their progression to the last-16 of the Champions League three years ago will take charge of their clash against Malmo.

Felix Brych, 40, pointed to the spot against Spartak Moscow when Georgios Samaras hit the deck with eight minutes to play at Parkhead – and the Hoops heading for the exit.

Kris Commons smashed the resulting penalty into the net to secure a 2-1 victory back in 2012 and earn Neil Lennon’s men a memoralbe clash against Italian giants Juventus.

Brych, a qualified lawyer, is no stranger to taking charge of encounters involving Scottish clubs or the national team.

He oversaw Rangers’ 3-0 Champions League defeat against Valencia in 2010, as well as the Gers’ 1-1 draw against Panathinaikos on their way to the 2008 UEFA Cup final.

Brych was also the man in the middle when Scotland played out a thrilling 3-2 defeat against England at Wembley in 2013.
