Dunbar leisure pool now has an accessible wheelchair

DUNBAR Leisure Pool now has a state-of-the-art accessible wheelchair to assist swimmers coming in and out of the pool.

The new addition to the enjoyleisure’s Dumbar pool was made possible with thanks to Dunbar Commuity Council who raised funds through Community Windpower.

The ‘Easyroller Wheelchair’ allows customers with various additional needs to safely grant access to the pool and enjoy a relaxing time in the water.

Water is a great method of physical activity for all ages and abilities due to it supporting individual’s bodyweight, it can also be good for the mind as a way of de-stressing and relaxing.

The Easyroller Wheelchair provides direct access for users from the changing rooms, via the showers and into the pool in one easy step, making the process smooth for all.

The design of the new wheelchair will offer direct access to the pool and relieve apprehension for individuals.

Bill Axon, enjoyleisure chief executive said: “As East Lothian’s charitable, health wellbeing and leisure trust, enjoy is committed to providing accessible and inclusive activities for all ages and abilities, so everyone across East Lothian has the opportunity to improve their overall health and wellbeing. 

“We are very grateful for Dunbar Community Council and Community Windpower’s support in purchasing this wheelchair, which will allow us to provide a much easier transition to the pool for our customers with additional needs.

“Swimming has so many health benefits, and by providing easier access to our facilities, we hope that we can encourage more individuals within our communities, and beyond to enjoy a swim at Dunbar Leisure Pool.”
