Moment Asda store is flooded by torrential rain pouring from ceiling

DRAMATIC footage shows how torrential rain almost washed out Asda shoppers as rain is seen pouring from the shop roof.

The clip, taken at the Asda Leith store in Edinburgh, shows the rain lashing down from the lights as shoppers stop and stare at the store filling up with water.

Edinburgh was victim to several thunderstorms over the weekend, with some areas also flooded.

Connor Moore was doing his shopping at the time and decided to capture the water pouring in and upload it to Facebook on Saturday.

He captioned his post: “Asda in Leith.”

Rain can be seen pouring in from the roof as the short video also shows shoppers desperately trying to avoid getting soaked.

The rain seems to be stretching almost the whole length of the supermarket as the heavy downpour can also be heard very loudly.

A woman can be seen appearing to summon a small child back as customers a wary about making their way around the shop.

The video has since racked up more than 109,000 views with many sharing concerns in the comments.

Laura Cairns said: “Mental.”

Demi Gillespie commented: “People should not be allowed to be in the shop when water is coming through.”

Beth Gardner said: “OMG, it better be sorted before I get my fry up stuff tomorrow.”

Tagging a friend, Stacey Grieve said: “Bet you’re glad you never went to Asda when it was like this.”

Ashley Muir commented: “That’s crazy! Glad I didn’t leave my house yesterday.”

Also tagging friends, Gaynor Duthie said: “Hope you weren’t planning on doing the shopping today.”

Asda confirmed shoppers were not allowed to enter the store whilst the roof was being fixed.

Speaking to a local newspaper, a spokesperson said: “Due to the heavy rainfall over the weekend there was a leak at our Leith store.

“Thanks to the quick response and hard work from our colleagues the store is back running as normal, but we would like to apologies to any customers for the inconvenience caused.”

A flood alert is still in place for Edinburgh and surrounding areas from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency as the Scottish capital was hit with torrential rain over the weekend.

Trains between Glasgow and Edinburgh have also been disrupted as the Winchburgh tunnel has been flooded.

Asda apologised for the inconvenience caused by the rain.

A spokesman said: “Due to the heavy rainfall over the weekend there was a leak at our Leith store.

“Thanks to the quick response and hard work from our colleagues the store is back running as normal, but we would like to apologise to any customers for the inconvenience caused.”
