Hearts boost as duo sign new long-term contracts

TWO of Hearts’ brightest prospects, Connor Smith and Chris Hamilton, have signed new contracts with the capital club.

Smith, 17, has penned a three-year deal after bursting on to the scene in spectacular fashion last term.

He was handed a maiden start for the Jambos in their 1-1 Edinburgh derby draw against Hibernian on April 28, belying his age to turn in a nerveless showing in the Easter Road cauldron.

Smith went on to feature in Premiership fixtures against Aberdeen and Celtic, taking his tally of senior appearances to four. Boss Craig Levein is known to rate the precocious playmaker as one of the most talented youngsters on the books at Tynecastle.

Hamilton, meanwhile, has been afforded just one first-team outing for Hearts but is already a Scotland under-21 internationalist and was captain of the Jambos side that won the SFA Reserve Cup last season.

He spent the first half of the 2018/19 campaign on loan at Berwick Rangers.

Hamilton’s new contract will also see him remain in Gorgie until the summer of 2022.
