Edinburgh Airport gears up for busiest weekend of the year

More than 90,000 people will take off from Edinburgh Airport this weekend as the school summer holidays get underway.

Between today (Friday) and Monday, it’s estimated a total of 92,348 passengers will depart from the airport with most popular destinations including Malaga, Alicante, Palma and Amsterdam.

It is expected to be the busies weekend of the year so far.

David Wilson, Chief Operating Officer at Edinburgh Airport, said: “Last month saw over one million passengers travel through the terminal – our busiest May on record and almost 10% up on last year.

“Summer is always our busiest time of the year and we anticipate our numbers will only continue to grow.

“Between today and Monday we’ll see over 160,000 passengers arrive and depart the terminal.”

He added: “The terminal will be very busy so we’ll have dedicated family lanes in security and will be fully staffed to assist passengers and make their journey as relaxed and stress-free as possible.”

Following recent incidents where passengers have had to queue for security, the airport is calling on those travelling to allow extra time to get through and to be prepared.
