American comedian explains hilarious complaints he faces online as name is one letter different to UK pub chain

AN AMERICAN comedian has shared the hilarious complaints he faces online amid punters constantly mistaking him for popular UK pub chain JD Wetherspoon.

Comedian J.D. Witherspoon’s name is just one letter different from the budget boozers, and the funnyman has told of how he faces constant outcry from disappointed pub-goers online.

The 34-year-old explained how users will consistently mistake his Twitter profile for that of Wetherspoons – despite his own face being visible in his profile picture.

During a stand-up show Witherspoon explained: “There’s a pub in the UK called JD Wetherspoon, so it’s the same name as mine except it’s off by like one letter, so it’s an E instead of an I.

“And they have like the worst f***ing reviews ever. But, they have no social media presence.

“They deleted that at like st review number 208, so guess who has a Twitter account that gets f***ing bombarded by dumb-ass British people every other day.

“They’ll find me on Twitter, see my f***ing face in my Twitter profile and still be like ‘Alright, let’s get into this’.”

Witherspoon then shows a series of tweets that he has received from angry Wetherspoons customers as well as several replies from himself clarifying that he isn’t responsible for the pub.

The comedian shows direct messages that he has received, with one reading: “I am really disgusted with the service I have received from yourselves at the pub I visited and now the customer service team.

“The service my parents received at The King and Castle on Saturday was plain rude.

“The food order was terrible. The service by the two waitresses was diabolical. I asked to speak to the on-shift manager, and was told they weren’t available as I think we deserved a full refund.

“Was told to contact the customer service team which I did explain and got an automated message back.

“I complained via the website so if you need details please let me know so the complaint can be read by yourselves.”

The hilarious clip was uploaded to social media last Tuesday with the caption: “J.D. Witherspoon vs JD Wetherspoon: A Pub who Deleted Their Social Media & a Man who gets Bombarded With Negative Reviews.

“Heads up fellow pub-goers: There’s a pub in the UK called JD Wetherspoon that is not me! And they have some of the worst reviews out there!

“Unfortunately, they have no social media presence and have even deleted their Twitter account. According to most reviews you should avoid this pub at all costs.”

The video has received over 17,000 likes and more than 700 comments from amused Brits.

One user wrote: “The problem you’ve got is it’s not one terrible pub, it’s about 850 terrible pubs called JD Wetherspoon. I’m so sorry this is happening to you.”

Another said: “I work at a Wetherspoons – I’m sorry.”

A third replied: “Bro, just respond as if you’re Spoons innit.”

Another commented: “You and @johnlewis on twitter should start a double act!”

Speaking today Witherspoon, who is the son of legendary comic John Witherspoon, said: “I discovered Wetherspoons as a kid on vacation in the UK due to my late father’s line of work.

“He was doing shows in the UK as a comedian and my family and I were with him.

“When I saw the name of the restaurant I was very confused as a child, but as I got older I learned they were a huge chain of pubs/restaurants.

“As time went on and social media became more prevalent I noticed people would send their angry reviews of poor service to me on Twitter without even double checking to see if the restaurant had social media, and the complaints have been coming in ever since.

“I honestly think the mixup is funny, but it just happens so often nowadays that it’s kind of embarrassing that people don’t do their due diligence when they are searching for the chain/pubs social media.

“Most, if not, all messages are complaining about the chain/pub, and how bad their food/service/bathrooms are.

“Personally, I don’t really have an opinion on the restaurant because I’ve never been inside so I don’t really know much about it outside of people complaining about how bad it is.”
